Learning to Work

It's been hay cutting time at our house the last few weeks...
Farmer dad had a job for us on this very, very, HOT day.
H and I were to walk the rows and pick up large branches and rocks out of the hay before he rolled it.
H started out a little reluctant but it turned out to be a wonderful learning experience
for the both of us.  We figured out together...he would drive the Mule down a row, I would pick up, then we would alternate on each row.  We talked about what it meant to work(joyfully) and when we have a job to do, do it well.  I could tell he started to feel good about working hard and took the initiative to do things without asking.  It was a good reminder that when things are hard, not to give up. He seemed to enjoy the responsibility.  I see how the small things build our character and prayerfully, I will be wise to see the opportunity in our daily lives.

I'm reminded of the beginning of a poem by Malthie D. Babcock,  Be Strong:

Be Strong!
We are not here to play, to dream, to drift;
We have hard work to do, and loads to lift;
Shun not the struggle-face it; 'tis God's gift....

He needed a break to cool off in the creek!

We stopped for a snack at the Mulberry tree...

After we finished, he had to cool off again in our redneck swimming pool...aka a livestock watering trough.
